With the recent name change and upgrading from Masterskill University College of Health Sciences (MUCH) to aSIA Metropolitan University (AMU), we have revamped and reinvented our university college into an institution that can withstand the increasing intensity of competition within our nation and the impending onslaught of global challenges. As the Chancellor of AMU, I believe we have successfully carved a tradition, not only in producing competent and employable graduates, but also in establishing a vibrant and sustainable private higher education institution. The recent Ministry of Higher Education invitation for us to be upgraded into a full-fledged university bears testimony to our impressive track record in the private higher education landscape in Malaysia. In line with recent developments in the industry and within our institution, our strategic focus is to produce trained, qualified and competent graduates for the domestic and international employment markets.

AMU students are encouraged to Think Beyond Malaysia, driven by the critical impetus to shape themselves as “global citizens”. Dynamic graduates are marked by the openness of their minds, adaptability in moving from the familiar to an unfamiliar environment and their ability to accept virtue in differences. More importantly, “global citizenship” would demand a commanding proficiency in the English language and other languages of the host country. I urge all of you to empower yourselves with the necessary knowledge and skills besides continually developing your competency in other requisite attributes in managing people, communication, leadership, professional conduct and a positive mindset that prepares you to cross borders and be relevant in rendering your services anytime and anywhere. Equip yourselves with the lifelong learning skills to enable you to keep abreast of the ever changing needs, demands and technological advancement in your field. By Thinking Beyond Malaysia, our nation benefits in internationalising our manpower and the resultant learning generated from the international exposure. This would also greatly enhance our competitive edge as a premier, recognised and trusted higher education institution.
