Besraya (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of IJM Corporation Berhad, has been granted an exclusive right to design, construct, operate and maintain the highway known as “Lebuhraya Sungai Besi” (Besraya highway). Besraya highway commences from the University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Interchange all the way to Istana Interchange. The concession period granted by the Government is for 35 years and 9 months and development costs for the highway was approximately RM 520 million.
The 16.6 km Besraya highway is now served by one (1) toll plaza which is the Mines Toll Plaza and passes through various township developments, housing and industrial areas via 10 interchanges. This provides an accessible corridor for road users to reach landmarks such as the Selangor Turf Club, Palace of The Golden Horses, Mines Wonderland, Mines Shopping Center and South City Plaza.
Besraya’s linkages to major roads provide an alternative route for traffic heading north towards Kuala Lumpur City Center, Petaling Jaya, Kuantan, Ampang, Cheras and for those heading south towards Seri Kembangan, Balakong and Putrajaya.
Closure of the Salak Jaya toll plaza and future expansion (Besraya Eatern Extension – BEE)
The Salak Jaya toll plaza was abolished on 24 February 2009. As a form of compensation for the closure, the Works Minister announced the future expansion of the Besraya highway dubbed the Besraya Eastern Extension to Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 and near Pandan Indah. The 12.3 km extension will have connectivity at Salak South, Jalan Istana, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Cheras Lama, Shamelin Perkasa, MRR2 North (where Jalan Pandan Jaya intersects with MRR2), MRR2 South (where Jalan Pandan Indah intersects with MRR2), Pandan Jaya and Jalan Pandan Utama near Pandan Indah and one interchange at Taman Ikan Emas.
