History

International College of Music (ICOM) is the premier college of contemporary music in Malaysia and the Asian region offering formal education in contemporary music, audio production and music business at an undergraduate level.

Established in November 1995, the college opened its doors to its first intake in January 1996. The college received an intake of 16 students for the first semester of operations and another 16 in its second semester. With a total of 30 students pursuing an education in the highly specialised field of music, the college successfully completed its first year of operations.

Currently, ICOM has 200 students registered in its programmes. Our courses meet the demands of the music industry, which is looking for qualified music professionals to take on the challenging roles of arranger, songwriter, producer, engineer, performer, manager, entrepreneur and a host of other creative positions. Graduates of ICOM are readily accepted by the music industry as our students are well prepared to meet the needs and demands of a thriving industry.

The Ministry of Education, Malaysia, approves all courses run at ICOM.

In 2000, ICOM was awarded its ISO 9000:1994 certification which further endorses that the college has established quality assurance policies within its operations and has developed an effective quality management system to manage the operations of the college. In 2003 ICOM received the ISO 9001:2000 with full honors.

Further to this, ICOM achieved MSC status in 2005. The Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) is Malaysia’s most exciting initiative for the global information and communication technology (ICT) industry. Spanning 15km X 50KM, the MSC It is one of Malaysia’s main projects to achieve Vision 2020 of a fully developed nation. As such only companies that meet stringent criteria of developing and using multimedia technologies to produce or enhance their products and services and for process development qualify for this status and recognition. ICOM is first and only college to receive the MSC status for music.

Since 1996 the college has played a prominent role in shaping and moulding both the personal image and musicianship of the many students who have passed through its doors. ICOM has established herself as an icon to past and current students and as an aspiration to future music students.
